Mikaela fell in love with Hawaiian and Tahitian dance as a shy 4 year old.  Because of her extreme shyness, she didn't start taking classes until 4 years later.  Since then, however, she's performed professionally all over the country, including several performances and competitions in Hawaii. In 2003, after receiving a personal invite from one of the most accomplished Kumu Hula (Hula Masters) in Hawaii to join his classes, she decided to take some time away from work to spend 6 months living, learning and dancing in Hawaii. During that time, the intensive studies provided Mikaela with the opportunity to soak up the Polynesian cultures from two of Hawaii's most well-known teachers. As an added honor, her Kumu Hula of the past 14 years bestowed a Hawaiian name on her before her trip was over.  She continues to learn by attending workshops, competing and visiting her teachers in Hawaii every year, and loves to share what she's learned with her students.
